Renee Goodwin - Musical Director

Now retired from full time teaching, Renee taught for over twenty years. She graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington in December of 1988 with a degree of Bachelor of Music Education. She is member of the Texas Music Educators Association.

Renee began her teaching career at Grace Lutheran Private School. Soon she was hired by the Mansfield Independent School District as Assistant Band Director at Worley Middle School. Renee became Band Director at Howard Middle School when it opened. Since then, Howard Middle School Bands have consistently earned top honors, including making it to the Area level of the State Honor Band Competition in 2006. The Howard Honor Band has been a consistent Sweepstakes winner at UIL Concert and Sight reading contests.

Renee was principal of the Horn section of the Mansfield Wind Symphony from its formation until she took a leave of absence a few years ago. She was named Associate Conductor January 2007.

She and husband Dave have been married for over 22 years. They are the proud parents of son Daniel who also has played Horn in the Symphony.


William Owens - Associate Director

William Owens received his Bachelor of Music Education degree from in 1985 from Van Cook College of Music in Chicago. A seasoned music educator, Willy is active as a composer, conductor, and clinician throughout the United States. He has written numerous commissioned and published works for middle school and high school bands. Willy conducts, plays Alto Saxophone, and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Symphony.

His music has been programmed at prestigious venues such as the Midwest Clinic and appears on required music lists both nationally and abroad. Principal commissions include those from the California Band Directors association, the Chicago Public Schools Bureau of Cultural Arts, and the Texas University Interscholastic League. Willy is a winner of the ASCAPlus award and two-time recipient of the Forrest L. Buchtel Citation for Excellence in Band Composition. Professional memberships include ASCAP, the American Composers Forum, and Texas Music Educators Association.

Willy and his wife Georgia live in Ft. Worth Texas.
